Players seem to fall into one of two categories. They either play a lot more bridge or they play no bridge at all.
For example, one of my frequent partners reports she plays two to three times as often on BBO than she played face-to-face at a club. There’s no lost time commuting and her skills have improved because of BBO’s play of the hand exercises. She also likes BBO’s superior review of hands. Printed hand records don’t provide nearly as much information. Even with BBO’s reduced prices, she spends more because she plays more. And playing more helps to replace the social aspect of playing at a club.
People who don’t play online have simply stepped back from the game.
